What a great conversation we had at the book club meating discussing Mike Polen's "Botany of Desire" We ended just as we began exploring whether "desire" was the right word for the commonly held impulse toward evolution and proliferation by all living things. "Will" was proposed as an alternative. The implications of whether will or desire are at the core of the impulse to live and prosper give us much to think about in how we construct meaning form nature and from our own approach to existence and our relationship to the environment. Thanks Lena for giving us this opportunity. I am looking forward to the next book club meeting. Michelle
I really enjoyed the discussion of Botany of desire. The book was good- but I can't wait until the next discussion- Animal Vegetable Miracle really struck home, although I had read parts of it before (have no idea where). Suzanne
